History of the Château de Chanteloup :

The history of Chanteloup goes back to 1400 even if the two main buildings date respectively from 1815 regarding the Castle, and 15th and 19th centuries for the “Orangery” (the building close to the pond).

The “Orangery” was initially a noble house built with our dear English friends after the One Hundred Years War. It was then transformed in 1850 to give it a neo-gothic chapel aspect.

As far as the Castle is concerned, it was built in 1850 by the Viscountess Ogier d’Ivry who had two sons but only one castle (The marvellous Castle of Passay, 17th century, that you can admire at 2km from here in Sillé-le-Philippe). She thus built Chanteloup for her second son with the whole of the outbuildings.

The manor house is from a Classic Style, Louis the XVI’s time. The mansion remains pleasant to live and particularly within the family celebrations. Besides, you will admire the park, which was traced for a riders family, which underline the significance of a family spirit.

The postcards dating from 1900, well shows the numerous personnel, which was necessary at the time. It has changed since then, as apart from the season only one person, Roger, maintains the property !

The Souffront family acquired Chanteloup in 1960 with its park of 20 hectares as a second home, and started the campsite business in 1974; we became one of “Chaine des Castels
««««” member in 1980. Before this activity, the outbuildings were used as a farm with cows, pigs, pheasants and chickens. The 5 lodgings fitted out in the Old Orangerie and the farm, have been opening since 1995.
